Ask the small farmers around Teojomulco, Oaxaca what varietal they grow, and they’ll tell you it’s “Typica de Pluma” — a regional typica descendant from a small amount of seeds bought to the region in the mid-20th-century and propagated throughout the area.

Pluma de Hidalgo is a small, somewhat isolated mountain range, with Indigenous and Hispanic producers pooling together lots of any size. Locals bypass “coyote” coffee buyers to bring their small production to the Martinez family, who pay them fairly for parchment coffee and help get the coffee to larger markets.
