Finca Catalan is run by Nico Hammond, a third generation producer who is taking the farm to new heights. We’ve featured coffees from Catalan since 2016 and have witnessed the growth first-hand. In recent years, Nico has planted an additional 120 hectares. In addition to scaling up his growing operations, Nico also processes coffee from farmers in near San Martin Jilotepeque, who arrive nightly during the harvest. The farm also supports seasonal workers with lodging, square meals, and a school for the children of migrant workers. We’re proud to work with Catalan each year, knowing that the amazing coffee is produced responsibly with care for the people who work there.
This Pacamara lot was the highest scoring of the farm this year with lively acidity, great depth of flavor and sweetness. Tasting notes paint only the roughest picture here. A cup that evolves as it cools, drifting from the slightly spiced and savory aromas you might expect from Pacamara, then opening up to a citrus-forward profile with a long and creamy aftertaste.
